What is your ethnic background?
My father was from Spain and my mother is Peruvian.
How does your cultural background influence your business values and practices?
Growing up, I was immersed in a culture that deeply values family, respect, and community. These values have had a profound impact on my approach to business. I believe that strong relationships are essential for success, and I strive to build trust and rapport with everyone I work with. Additionally, my cultural background has taught me the importance of resilience and adaptability, which has helped me navigate challenges and seize opportunities in the business world.
What are some hardships you have overcome as a woman-/minority-owned business?
As a woman and minority-owned business in the male-dominated construction industry, I’ve faced several unique challenges. Overcoming unconscious bias and prejudice has been a constant endeavor. By demonstrating my knowledge, dedication, and experience over the past decade, I’ve worked to mitigate these obstacles. It’s inspiring and humbling to see more Hispanic women taking on non-traditional roles like mine, especially in Frederick.
How long have you been working with MWBC?
I’ve been working with MWBC for almost 4 years.
How has MWBC helped you in your business journey?
The Maryland Women’s Business Center’s expert guidance has been instrumental in my business success. My counselor, Mrs. Karen Kalantzis, helped me develop a strong business plan and provided invaluable strategies for growth and sustainability. Today, we are an Award-winning company, and I personally, won the Trades Person of the Year 2022 and 2023 among other accolades.
What advice would you give to other Hispanic/Latinx aspiring entrepreneurs?
To Hispanic/Latin aspiring entrepreneurs, I offer this advice: Stay grounded and expect the unexpected. While chasing dreams is essential, it’s equally important to be realistic about the challenges ahead. Prepare for hurdles and surround yourself with a supportive network who can guide you through the journey. Remember, persistence and the right mindset are key to achieving your entrepreneurial goals.
