SUMMARY:Demystifying the Corporate Transparency Act for Your Small Business [Webinar]
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER\n\nThe Corporate Transparency Act\, enacted in 2021\, aims to help prevent and combat money laundering\, terrorist financing\, corruption\, tax fraud\, and other illicit activity. Under the Act\, many businesses are required to begin reporting beneficial ownership information (BOI) to the U.S. Treasury Financial Crimes Enforcement Network. \nTo understand if your entity is required to report\, what beneficial ownership means\, timelines for reporting\, and more\, join Christine Lopez Kulumani\, Managing Attorney at the DC Bar Pro Bono Center\, for this webinar with the Maryland Women’s Business Center and SBA Washington Metropolitan Area District Office. \nAbout the Speaker\nChristine Kulumani\nManaging Attorney\, Nonprofit & Small Business Legal Assistance Programs\nDC Bar Pro Bono Center \nChristine Lopez Kulumani is a Managing Attorney with the Nonprofit & Small Business Legal Assistance Programs at D.C. Bar Pro Bono Center. In this role\, she manages regular legal clinics for small businesses and nonprofits\, directly provides legal advice to small businesses\, and nurtures relationships with District government agencies\, community partners\, law firms\, and corporate legal departments. \nPrior to joining the Pro Bono Center\, Christine worked as legislative counsel at the Council of the District of Columbia\, the District’s 13-member legislative body. Before that\, she worked as a project assistant at the American Bar Association Racial Justice Improvement Project. \nChristine holds a B.A. in political science from the University of New Mexico and a J.D. from the George Washington University Law School. She is licensed to practice law in the District of Columbia. \nChristine is a volunteer with various District nonprofits and a member of the Board of Directors of DC Refers. \n \n  \nNirav “Nick” Rajpara\nEconomic Development Specialist\nU.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) \nNirav “Nick” Rajpara is an Economic Development Specialist at the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA)\, Washington D.C. Area Metro Office (WMADO). In this role\, he collaborates with local: SBA Resource Partners\, (public and private) economic development organizations\, and other stakeholders to develop\, bolster and support informational initiatives which aid and assist small business and entrepreneurs across the national capital region. In addition\, he is the Program Manager for SBA’s T.H.R.I.V.E. (Emerging Leaders Reimagined) initiative\, a CEO academy which guides small business leaders on scaling and growing their business. He is also the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Project Officer\, in his SBA field office. In this capacity he oversees and collaborates with local SBDC networks in the Washington\, DC metro area. Prior to joining the SBA\, Nick served as a Small Business Counselor at the DC-SBDC at Howard University. He holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration\, and a Masters Degree in Public Policy from Pepperdine University. He has a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California\, Riverside.
