Maryland Women’s Business Center to Host 2nd Annual Awards Luncheon

Dr. Maya Rockeymoore Cummings Announced as Keynote Speaker

Rockville, MD, September, 15, 2017–On October 17, Maryland Women’s Business Center (MWBC) will host their second annual Awards Luncheon at Lakewood Country Club from 11:00 a.m. -1:30 p.m. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Maya Rockeymoore Cummings, President and CEO of Global Policy Solutions discussing her journey as a social entrepreneur with expertise in income security and women’s issues.

“While any venture requires its founder to take a leap of faith, women entrepreneurs experience tremendous barriers to their success,” said Dr. Maya Rockeymoore Cummings, President, CEO and Founder of Global Policy Solutions LLC and the Center for Global Policy Solutions.  “I look forward to discussing the challenges women entrepreneurs face and what can be done to build pathways for sustainable women-owned businesses.”

MWBC kicked off their inaugural Awards Luncheon in 2016 to culminate their Five-Year Anniversary, and the annual event spotlights client achievements, volunteers, partners, and the business community. MWBC clients and MD-based women entrepreneurs are encouraged to nominate themselves or fellow businesses for one of seven awards. Nominations and complete applications are due Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at 3 p.m. EDT.

“The MWBC is excited to celebrate the achievements of the phenomenal women entrepreneurs in Maryland that are having a significant impact on their community,” said Kiesha Haughton, Managing Director of the MWBC. “Our goal is to empower women by highlighting their accomplishments, so others can also be inspired to follow their dreams of entrepreneurship and unleash their true economic potential.”

Registration is $50 and includes lunch, invaluable networking, awards presentation and a special goodie bag. Since 2010, MWBC has helped over 5,000 women entrepreneurs start, sustain and grow women-owned enterprises. Workshops and trainings are now available in Spanish to meet the growing market of Spanish-speaking entrepreneurs. In July 2017, MWBC launched a six-week government procurement series for mid-to-advanced level businesses in Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties. This fall, MWBC will expand their offerings to include Hi-Tech Roundtables for women-owned businesses and an International Trade program.
